Website Project Manager - Intern/Volunteer
Start Date:  Immediately

We are opening a Food Business Incubator Kitchen and are looking for someone to help develop the program curriculum and processes for the Incubator program.  This individual will work closely with Director of Business Development and lead the design of the Incubator program from customer orientation to program completion. 

Deliverables

  • Development of an operations manual and rental agreement for tenants
  • Develop complete descriptions of incubator program services for outreach marketing collateral
  • Development of incubator program curriculum, including program overview, process and all supporting materials and documentation

Ideal Candidate

Our ideal candidate will have strong project management, written and oral communication skills.  He/she will have some experience developing and documenting programs.


Retail Recruiting Research Assistant
Start Date:  Immediately

This position will play a key role in identifying existing businesses whose target customer match existing North Minneapolis customer segments.  The goal of this role is to conduct research to identify these retail businesses and create a database to collect their contact and other relevant information to assist us in recruiting their businesses to West Broadway Avenue

Primary responsibilities include

  • Utilize criteria identified by business development department and employ creative research techniques to identify potential existing retail business prospects for West Broadway Avenue.
  • Identify retail business prospects within the following audiences:  (1) existing retail operations to relocate to West Broadway, (2) existing retail operations to expand to a West Broadway location independently or via joint venture, (3) new, local retail owners/entrepreneurs to develop a retail operation on West Broadway, and (4) established retail chains & franchises to consider West Broadway locations.
  • Use salesforce.com to develop a database to compile contact and other pertinent information on each prospect for purposes of retail prospect management.  Implement and maintain a retail prospect management system / database. Maintain accurate prospect tracking information in database.
  • Maintain and expand database and mailing lists of prospects.  

Expected Outcomes

  • Creation of a pipeline of at least 50 retailer prospects
  • Identification 20 qualified retail prospects and 8 retail anchors

Financial Development Coordinator
Start Date:  Immediately

This position will work closely with the President and Board Chair to coordinate Catalyst’s capital campaign activities and manage relationships with the Catalyst donor community. 

Primary responsibilities include

  • Coordinate meetings and key communications with current and prospective donors
  • Work closely with the Director of Communications on the development and distribution of all donor-related print and electronic capital campaign materials
  • Track donor activities through Catalyst’s central database management system on a timely and accurate basis; run standard reporting on donor activities
  • Conduct targeted research for donor meeting preparation
  • Follow up on requests and inquiries in a manner consistent with Catalyst’s mission and vision

Expected Outcomes

  • Well run capital campaign process; good, timely and relevant donor communications
  • Strong relationships with donors, prospects and Catalyst capital campaign volunteers

Events Coordinator
Start Date:  Immediately

The Events Coordinator will work directly with the Director of Communications and provide support in planning special events for our donor base, strategic partners and the community.  The Events Coordinator will be responsible for securing sponsors and donors, work with Director of Communications to support the design and distribution of all relevant communications, including event press releases, invitations and venue selection.  This role will also be responsible for coordinating event production such as, securing caterers, entertainment acts, food and beverage donations, etc.   The Events Coordinator will serve as the point of contact for the planning, organization and management of logistics for all special events.

Graphic Design, Layout and Production Advisor
Start Date:  Immediately

The Graphic Design, Layout and Production Manager works closely with the Director of Communications to produce consistent, effective printed materials that employ Catalyst’s brand standards while promoting the organization’s mission, vision and core capacities. With the Director of Communications, this position will produce tools and key messages related to retail business recruitment and development, as well as financial and organizational development. This position will leverage existing and new relationships with vendors to maximize production value of all materials.

Expected Outcomes
Development and production of immediate and ongoing marketing and communications materials. Immediate needs include, but are not limited to:

  • Strategic Advisor / Volunteer: Teaser, Fact Sheet, Report
  • Business Development: Teaser, Fact Sheet, Report

Information Technology Advisor
Start Date:  Immediately

The principle responsibility of this position is to help assist Catalyst in the establishment, maintenance and strategic planning for information technology needs.  As Catalyst establishes a strong organization it is vital to have the IT resources necessary to be effective and efficient. This position will work closely with the Director of Operations but my also assist individual Catalyst staff when necessary.

Primary responsibilities include

  • Assist Director of Operations in assessing present IT status and needs within Catalyst.
  • Develop a long-term strategy for the Catalyst IT system maintenance and growth.
  • Create and assist in the implementation of an efficient and effective plan for Catalyst’s anticipated move to a new location in the fall of 2009.
  • Provide high-quality IT support to Catalyst staff in addressing acute needs.
  • Provide consultative assistance to the Director of Communications with the Catalyst website and electronic communications.

Expected Outcomes

  • That Catalyst will have a well managed and efficient IT system
  • That Catalyst staff and volunteers have the IT resources they need to be effective in their role.
  • A well-organized IT long-term strategy is designed and implemented for Catalyst.
  • That any acute IT issues will have a process in place for their prompt resolution.

Strategic Advisors
Start Date:  Immediately

Strategic Advisors are experts who advise key retail businesses seeking to expand, relocate or start-up along West Broadway Avenue on a volunteer or pro-bono basis.  Our goal is to recruit these advisors from among seasoned entrepreneurs, business owners and top-notch professionals. We are seeking 30-40 strategic advisors to support business prospects in Marketing and Promotions, Finance and Accounting, Retail Strategies and Operations, Retail Service Providers, and Architectural Design and Programming.

Catalyst would like each Advisor to commit to approximately 1 year term of service though some commitments may vary.    Specific time commitment will vary and will be determined by both the needs of the supported business owners as well as the availability of the advisor.   There are 2 levels in which advisors can become engaged:  

Level I - Business Development Strategic Advisors
Strategic advisors are individually matched to our business prospects with the intent of providing expert support during the start-up stages of their businesses.  As a strategic advisor, each will provide guidance, expertise and professional resources to the business prospects in their efforts to achieve their strategic goals and in the development of dynamic and proven business strategies.   Example work could include the review of the business plan, marketing plan, and/or financial statements and the advising of business prospect on other important business issues.  This role may include work on specific projects, work on the development of prospective business or the involvement in an ongoing relationship throughout their start-up process. 

Level II - Strategic Advisory Team(s)
Catalyst supported businesses will need the assistance of Retail Support Advisory Teams for guidance in areas such as marketing/promotions teams, retail business operations advisors and finance advisors.  The expertise provided by these business professionals will assist the business owners by providing ongoing support in their effort to launch and grow their businesses into sustainable and revenue generating enterprises. 

Each business owner will have an advisory team that will meet with them for quarterly reviews.  The goal of each of these meetings is to provide guidance and support as they manage their businesses.  There will be a representative from each area of expertise on the advisory team (i.e. retail business operations advisor, finance/accounting advisor and a representative from the marketing and promotions board).  

Catalyst is also seeking to recruit a Marketing and Promotions Advisory Group to work in more a comprehensive manner to assess, plan, implement and evaluate a cooperative marketing strategies for all Catalyst supported businesses along West Broadway Avenue.   This team will identify cross-promotion strategies and synergies among retailers and institutions, over our first 12 months, in an effort to stimulate revenue growth and to assist them in achieving their revenue targets. 

Expected Outcomes

  • Strategic guidance and support for expanding, relocating and new businesses on WEST BROADWAY AVENUE to help them maximize the growth and profitability of their businesses.
  • A minimum of 25 retail, design, consumer marketing and operations experts engaged in providing strategic guidance to business prospects and owners.
  • 8 business professionals for membership on our Marketing and Promotions Advisory Group with the intent on providing ongoing support to the West Broadway Avenue business for 12 months.
